Resort WiFi Cost Estimator
Premium WiFi at Maldives resorts is famously expensive. Local SIM alternatives — and their limits.
Unique: shows the SIM-from-Malé caveat — local SIMs don't work at remote resorts.
What this solves
Most luxury resorts offer free basic WiFi in lobby and paid "Premium" WiFi (faster, all-device) at $10–$25/p/day. A local SIM from Malé (Dhiraagu or Ooredoo) is cheaper per GB — but it does not work at remote resorts because Maldivian operators don't cover open ocean.
How to read results
- Resort premium total: full WiFi cost for the stay.
- SIM total: only useful if the resort is close to Malé or you have a multi-leg trip.
- Verdict: which actually works for you.
Limitations
At remote resorts (anything > 30 min from Malé by seaplane), local SIM coverage is essentially zero. The resort's WiFi is the only option. Plan for it.
FAQ
Is free WiFi good enough?
For messaging and email — yes. For video calls, large file uploads, streaming — no. Premium is faster and supports multiple devices.
What about eSIM?
eSIMs that roam through Maldivian operators work in Malé and Hulhumale; same coverage limits apply.
