Tide Table Estimator
Maldives tides are semi-diurnal and modest β but spring tides (new/full moon) and neap tides (quarter moon) make a real difference for sandbank visits.
What this solves
The Maldives has a typical tidal range of 0.5β1.2 m β modest compared to many coasts β but the timing matters: a sandbank visible at low tide may be submerged 6 hours later. Spring tides (around new/full moon) exaggerate both; neap tides (quarter moon) make the range minimal. This calculator combines moon phase and activity.
How to read results
- Spring tide: bigger range (1.0β1.2 m). Sandbanks more exposed at low.
- Neap tide: smaller range (0.4β0.6 m). Sandbanks stay similar all day.
- Best window = the 2-hour band around low tide for sandbank / sand-flat activities.

FAQ
Can I walk to a sandbank?
Only at low tide and only with a guide who knows the channel. Don't try it alone β the tide can come in faster than you think.
Why does the moon matter?
Gravitational pull from the moon (and sun) creates tides. New/full moon align the sun-moon-earth for max pull (spring). Quarter moon pulls sideways for min pull (neap).
